RDP: Reservoir Driven Processing

To deliver a ‘borehole calibrated’ seismic processed volume, we propose to implement RDP during the execution of the time/depth seismic processing and imaging sequence. The RDP process utilizes seismic and well data to quantitatively monitor the performance of the processing sequence and the parameters used and deliver a final seismic volume that is ‘Inversion Ready’.

At a number of pre-defined seismic processing / imaging steps, a portion of data around the selected well locations, will be analyzed for well tie, SNR (Signal-to-noise ratio), quality of the extracted wavelet, pre- and post-stack inversion tie with borehole curves (P and S Impedance, VP/VS).  The RDP process will allow to quantify the impact of the tested data processing algorithm (and the parameters used) and the sensitivity of the seismic data to that particular algorithm. Typically we would run RDP at 2-3 well locations, before and after several combinations and permutations of random noise attenuation, coherent noise attenuation (deconvolution of other model driven technology available to BSG), surface consistent processes and bandwidth enhancement processes.

RDP will also be used to complement the Velocity Model Building for PSTM and PSDM (anisotropic). RDP can also be utilized to fine tune the final gathers pre-conditioning for AVO / Simultaneous Inversion.

RDP requires full petrophysical and rock physics analysis on the wells that will be selected for this process as well as initial calibration of the acoustic logs to processed VSP data (if available). Availability of recorded shear sonic will allow extensive modelling during the RDP analysis and will greatly increase the chance of success.

RDP will not substantially impact the seismic processing turnaround.

RDP is usually run on a minimum 3 wells with good logs.

  • Deliverable is a report detailing each test result.
  • After RDP the seismic is ‘Inversion Ready’ (only minimum pre-conditioning required).
