Block 8 - Offshore Lebanon

The Commencement of Lebanon Multi-Client 3D Survey in Block 8

Brightskies Geoscience and  Geoex MCG under the authority of Lebanon’s Ministry of Energy and Water are pleased to announce the commencement of a multi-client 3D seismic survey in Lebanon’s Block 8.

The geophysical survey is designed to leverage newfound optimism in the country’s hydrocarbon potential following the announcement of TotalEnergies’ drilling activity in the adjacent Block 9. TotalEnergies is expected to spud the highly anticipated Qana 31/1 exploration well on 24th August 2023. A major gas discovery would be a significant step towards unlocking the margin’s full potential.

The ministry has awarded a reconnaissance license to Brightskies Geoscience and Geoex MCG on 8th August 2023, to jointly acquire a minimum of 1,400 km2 in Block 8 in support of further deepwater exploration. Seismic data acquisition is expected to start in Q4 2023, with fast-track processed data anticipated within Q1 2024.

The survey will emphasize imaging of the deep-water sandstones of Oligo-Miocene age that have been regionally targeted with considerable success. Further targets are carbonate sequences that could also provide a secondary play type in the region.

Final deliverables will include 3D broadband volumes using modern Pre-Stack Time Migration (PSTM) and Pre-Stack Depth Migration (PSDM) with optional FWI enhanced imaging technology available. An extension to Block 5 could be made available to interested parties. Full interpretation will be conducted by regional experts and incorporate legacy data sources. Geoex MCG and Brightskies Geoscience are currently seeking companies interested in early participation in Block 8.

Brightskies Geoscience (BSG) awarded seismic processing contract

Brightskies Geoscience Inc., is an emerging seismic processing company, based in Cairo has been awarded a new seismic processing contract. Awarded by a leading energy company in the Middle East, the survey is approximately 350 sq. km and located in the Western Desert, Egypt. The technically challenging dataset, set to benefit from BSG’s highly experienced personnel, will undergo full 3D seismic reprocessing including pre-processing, preSTM and preSDM comes ahead of the upcoming drilling campaign that is planned for the area.

Brightskies & Intel Collaborate to Build Custom HPC Solutions for Oil and Gas Exploration

Brightskies shares how we used the Intel® oneAPI toolkits to build our own reverse time migration (RTM) solution, to help geoscientists and geologists at energy companies use HPC for seismic image processing. Brightskies migrated its code to different hardware architectures using DPC++, while tuning only 30% of the code and simultaneously achieved increased performance for their customers.

Brightskies First Egyptian Autonomous Driving System

Our sister company Brightskies Technologies, reveals the first autonomous driving system proof of concept (POC) developed in Egypt. BrightDrive, a level 4 autonomous driving system that supports highway driving, is a machine-learning platform that is fully capable of driving autonomously on highways without driver intervention, relying on its advanced detection capabilities. The platform can avoid obstacles by lane changes and is capable of applying automatic emergency braking through its advanced onboard sensors covering 360 degrees around the vehicle.

Brightskies’ Experience Using oneAPI for Reverse Time Migration: Choosing the Right API Matters in Real Product Development

The choice of programming model is a critical decision when embarking on a new development project. This decision has only gotten more difficult with the proliferation of parallel programming approaches and hardware accelerators, from vector CPUs to GPUs, FPGAs, DSPs, ASICs, and even dedicated AI chips. These accelerators often require proprietary programming approaches that lock the software to a particular vendor’s architecture.
